Samuel Boyer was born on February 8, 1833, in Adams Township, Decatur County, Indiana, the son of Daniel and Rebecca Miller Boyer.

He died on February 22, 1839, at 6 years and 14 days of age, and was buried in the Old Section of the Little Flat Rock Cemetery. The circumstances surrounding young Samuel’s death have been lost to posterity.

Later Boyer family burials are found at Mount Moriah Cemetery, including his father Daniel Boyer. Samuel’s burial at Little Flatrock may indicate that the family was living nearer to the Little Flatrock community in 1839, or that winter conditions in February made it the more practical burial location at the time of his death.
